Pickerel/Walleye Enhancement Program
The summer of 1983 marked the release of the first pickerel fingerlings raised by the Loring Restoule’s enhancement program. The successful program is a continuing project specifically designed to improve walleye fishing in area waters, including the Pickerel and Caribou water system. Long recognized as one of Ontario’s finest walleye areas, we are now assured of future fish stocks and years of successful angling. The hatchery has an ongoing open house during the spring spawning period.
The opening of Pickerel Season in the Loring-Restoule region is a much-anticipated event. The region has been involved in an active restocking program for over 20 years with the Argyle Fish Hatchery. The Argyle Fish Hatchery runs an annual Poker run at the start of every summer to benefit their restocking efforts.
